If you can’t be in England now that April’s here – don’t despair. We’ve got some stunning gardens on this side of the pond and now, from April 23-30, The Garden Clubs of Virginia step up and highlight 250 of them during Historic Garden Week. Since 1927, this event has been the highlight of spring for professional, amateur and maybe-I’ll-start-a-garden-this-year gardeners.
The visitor has lots of choices of how to participate. You can purchase statewide passes for all 8 days (cha-ching, but definitely on my bucket list), or treat yourself to a day or three in a specific area of Virginia, enjoying not only historic gardens, but historic homes filled with flower arrangements from local clubs.
With dogwoods lighting up the canopies and the spring soil brightened by trillium, phlox, primula and a host of other favorites, it’s Virginia at her best. Had Browning only seen it, he might have changed his tune.
